As auctioneers licensed by the Auctioneers Board of Kenya, we manage the entire process—from valuation and repossession to marketing and sale—ensuring you achieve the maximum possible market value for your assets in a transparent, efficient, and legally compliant manner.
The Legal Framework: The Auctioneers Act & Your Protection
Conducting an industrial equipment auction in Kenya is a legally regulated process governed primarily by the Auctioneers Act (Cap 526) and the associated Auctioneers Rules. This legislation is designed to protect all parties—the seller (consignor), the buyer (bidder), and the debtor (in cases of repossession). A critical requirement is that the auction must be conducted by an auctioneer holding a valid, current license issued by the Auctioneers Board of Kenya. This is your first and most important safeguard against fraud and legal complications.
The Act stipulates a clear procedure that must be followed. This includes the issuance of a legal proclamation notice before seizure, a mandatory public advertisement of the auction in a newspaper with nationwide circulation (like The Daily Nation or The Standard), and specific rules for conducting the public sale itself. The advertisement must detail the equipment for sale, viewing dates, and auction location (e.g., a secure yard in Nairobi's Industrial Area). By partnering with Swipe Recoveries, you ensure every step is meticulously documented and executed in full compliance with the law, safeguarding the sale from being challenged in court.

Our Auction Process: From Consignment to Final Sale
We offer a seamless, end-to-end service for sellers looking to auction their industrial equipment.
Step 1: Asset Valuation and Appraisal. Our specialists, with extensive experience in plant, machinery, and heavy vehicles, conduct a thorough on-site appraisal of your equipment. We assess its condition, market demand, and establish a fair, realistic reserve price to guide the auction.
Step 2: Consignment & Logistics. We execute a clear consignment agreement detailing the terms of sale, commission, and costs. If required, we manage the professional and secure transportation of the equipment—be it bulldozers, excavators, generators, or factory plant—to our secure auction yard.
Step 3: Targeted Marketing Campaign. A successful auction hinges on attracting the right buyers. We go beyond the mandatory newspaper ad, deploying a targeted marketing strategy that includes email blasts to our extensive database of known equipment buyers, online listings, and social media promotion to reach a national audience of contractors, farmers, and industrialists.
Step 4: Professional Auction Execution. We manage all aspects of the auction day, including bidder registration, collection of refundable bidding deposits, and conducting the live auction with a licensed, experienced auctioneer. Our process ensures a competitive bidding environment to drive up the final price.
Step 5: Swift Settlement and Payout. After the sale, we handle the collection of funds from the successful bidder, and ensure a prompt and transparent settlement of the proceeds to you, minus the agreed-upon commission and costs.
Understanding Auction Costs, Fees, and Bidding

We believe in complete transparency for both our sellers and buyers. Our fee structure is clear and compliant with the Auctioneers Rules.
For Sellers (Consignors): Our primary charge is a commission based on the 'hammer price' (the final sale price). This commission for an industrial equipment auction typically ranges from 5% to 10%, depending on the value and volume of the equipment. Additional costs for transport, storage, and extensive marketing are discussed and agreed upon upfront.
For Buyers (Bidders): To participate, bidders are usually required to register and pay a refundable bidding deposit, for example, KES 100,000 for high-value equipment, paid via cash or banker's cheque. This ensures only serious bidders participate. The successful bidder is required to pay a deposit (e.g., 25% of the purchase price) immediately after the auction, with the balance typically due within 24-48 hours. All sales are subject to VAT where applicable.
